Car Wax Types
When you want to protect your car’s finish you should apply a coat of wax after you wash it. The paint is highly susceptible to rust and corrosion due to weather and road conditions. Applying wax helps to preserve the paint and the shine so that it always looks new. There are two main types of car wax – natural and synthetic.
Natural car wax is made from carnauba, which comes from the copernica cerifera plant from Brazil. This wax is also used in conjunction with petroleum distillates, oil and naphtha. It really helps to preserve the car’s finish and will last from one to two months. However, it is hard to apply. You need to use a cloth and rub the wax into the finish in small circular movements and then buff the whole car when you are finished to give it a shine.
Synthetic wax is also known as paint sealant. It is a liquid wax that gives the car a beautiful shine along with the protection it needs. It is easy to apply and lasts a lot longer than natural wax.
Most people prefer to use synthetic wax because of the ease of use. However, natural wax does provide a better shine. The best way to make sure you have the car fully protected is to use both. Apply the synthetic wax first and then the natural wax.
When you are waxing your car make sure you do so in a shaded area and that the vehicle is completely dry after you’ve washed it. Even tiny droplets of water could cause a problem for you when you start buffing the car. There are microfibre cloths that you can use to ensure the car is dry. Instead of applying one heavy coat of wax, apply several thin layers for the best effect to achieve a great shine and finish.
